Experience the wonders of the South Pacific on a 14 day quilting exhibition throughout Australia and New Zealand.  Visiting the cities of Melbourne, Sydney, Christ Church, Mt., Cook, and Queenstown you’ll be immersed in the “down under” culture and fall in love with the beauty  of this far corner of the world.

Day 1

Melbourne, Australia – Tour Begins

Welcome to Australia, the land down under. Tonight, we open the tour with dinner at Melbourne’s historic Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. Trams are an essential part of this exciting city’s colorful atmosphere. Today dinner will be included.

Day 2

Melbourne – Ballarat – Ballan – Melbourne

This morning we travel to Sebastopol, a suburb of Ballarat, to visit one of Australia’s oldest quilt stores, Gail’s Patchwork Emporium. Later, continue your journey to Ballan, home of Millrose Quilting & Gallery. Here we will have free time to enjoy lunch at leisure before enjoying a demonstration of the different pieces in their gallery. Today breakfast will be included.

Day 3

Melbourne

Today, spend the entire day at the Australasain Quilt Convention.  For the husbands joining us, explore Melbourne at your leisure visiting Federation Square and Finders Walk along the Yarra River. Today breakfast will be included.

Day 4

Melbourne – Phillips Island – Melbourne

Take some time to independently explore Melbourne this morning. Later, we travel to Phillip Island, a renowned nature reserve and home of the world’s largest colony of Little Penguins. Protected and studied by rangers, hundreds of these lovable creatures waddle out of the sea and cross the beach on their way to burrows in the dunes. Next, we make a stop at Phillip Island Winery for a wine and cheese tasting. At the interpretation center you have a chance to learn about the lives of the Little Penguins and their significance to the region before enjoying access to the exclusive Penguins Plus viewing area. This evening gather by the beach and watch the Penguin Parade. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

Day 5

Melbourne – Sydney

Head back to the Australasian Quilt Convention this morning. Later this afternoon, fly to the vibrant city of Sydney. This evening, stroll through the city streets, visit the historic Rocks area, or simply relax. Today breakfast will be included.

Day 6

Sydney

Enjoy a tour of Sydney, birthplace of modern-day Australia. Highlights include Kings Cross, the Harbour Bridge, Chinatown, the Rocks, Circular Quay, the Botanic Gardens, and the fashionable suburb of Paddington. Marvel at one of the world’s greatest architectural wonders during a guided tour of the Sydney Opera House. Later, visit Logan’s Patchwork for a demonstration and afternoon tea. Today breakfast will be included.

Day 7

Sydney

This morning we visit the Lace Study Centre at the Power House Museum, home of one of the best lace collections in all of Australia. During your visit, enjoy a show-and-tell from the local lace enthusiasts. This afternoon visit the patchwork shop of Kathy Doughty, Material Obsession, known for their contemporary fabrics and traditional designs. This evening, enjoy a delightful dinner cruise of Sydney Harbour. Lose yourself in the scenic beauty of Sydney’s magnificent skyline and iconic attractions: the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

Day 8

Sydney – Christchurch, New Zealand

Today we leave Australia behind and fly to the historic city of Christchurch, New Zealand. See firsthand how the city known as “the Garden City” is recreating itself after the earthquake in 2011. Make yourself right at home this evening when a New Zealand family welcomes you into their home for dinner! This is sure to be an unforgettable evening during which you will make new friends, learn about the customs of the “Kiwis” and enjoy a home-cooked meal. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

Day 9

Christchurch – Mt. Cook Region

Depart for the Mt. Cook region. En route, visit a Canterbury farm for a fantastic opportunity to learn how a New Zealand family farm operates (subject to availability). Explore the garden and get to know the owners during afternoon tea. Traverse the spectacular countryside to New Zealand’s most famous national park, Mt. Cook. Admire the jagged contours and nearly vertical slopes of Mt. Cook amid this impressive mountain landscape. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

Day 10

Mt. Cook Region – Queenstown

This morning, embrace nature during free time in Mt. Cook National Park. Later, depart for Queenstown, one of New Zealand’s loveliest cities and a top adventure destination. En route we stop at a local fruit stand to gain an inside look at New Zealand’s delicious produce. You could say it’s a slice of life! Today breakfast will be included.

Day 11

Queenstown – Milford Sound – Queenstown

On our way to Milford Sound you’ll enjoy the rugged grandeur of the Hollyford Valley. Travel through ancient beech forest via the Homer Tunnel. During a cruise of the breathtakingly beautiful Milford Sound, you’ll see why this fjord is one of the most visited sights on the South Island. With rock faces that rise nearly 4,000 feet on either side, the scenery will take your breath away. Following your cruise, you return to Queenstown. Today breakfast and lunch will be included.

Day 12

Queenstown – Arrowtown – Queenstown

Enjoy a leisurely touring day as you set off for the beautiful turn-of-the-century Gold Rush settlement of Arrowtown. Take time to explore independently and stroll its quaint, historic streets. Next, explore the Central Otago region where many of New Zealand’s best wines are grown and produced. During a visit at a local winery, see their storage cave for a tasting of some of their famous wines. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

Day 13

Queenstown

Queenstown offers limitless diversions set amidst breathtaking Alpine scenery. Enjoy the day to explore the city at your leisure; perhaps you will choose to do some shopping in the charming village center. This evening, take in the city of Queenstown from above and soak in the breathtaking views during a gondola ride to dinner at the Skyline Restaurant overlooking Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkable Mountains. Today breakfast and dinner will be included.

Day 14

Queenstown – Tour Ends

Your tour comes to a close, leaving you with many pleasant memories of a wonderful vacation. Today breakfast will be included.
