Day 2
Kansas City
After breakfast (included daily), step into the kaleidoscope of the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival to marvel at quilts and shop for luscious fabrics and needlework supplies. Quilts from the legendary Kansas City Star blocks have been made worldwide, and for the past 80+ years “Kansas City” has been a familiar name to quilters across the globe. This evening, explore the Power & Light district or relax at our hotel’s hidden speakeasy. B
Day 3
Kansas City – Hamilton
Depart for Hamilton, a quilter’s dream town known as the “Disneyland of Quilting” and home of Missouri Star Quilt Company. Shop ‘til you drop at Batik Boutique, Kids & Baby and more than 10 other themed quilters’ shops in the heart of downtown. Next, at the Missouri Quilt Museum, explore the exhibits of antique sewing machines, vintage buttons, thimbles, and toy sewing machines, after admiring quilts from their permanent collection and traveling exhibition. B, D
Day 4
Hamilton – Jamesport – Des Moines
Travel to Jamesport, Missouri, in the heart of Amish country, where our guide reveals Amish homes and farms, country shops and stores, the sawmill, and an Amish school. You’ll have time for lunch on your own and to visit the shops and bakeries located downtown. Later, unwind at the Managers Reception at our Des Moines hotel before exploring downtown for dinner on your own. B
Day 5
Des Moines – Winterset – Lincoln
In Winterset, Iowa, visit Piece Works Quilt Shop, the original shop of legendary Marianne Fons and Liz Porter. Next door at the Iowa Quilt Museum, you’ll have time to admire the quilts in their ever-changing displays and exhibitions. After independent shopping and lunch, a guide leads a tour of the covered bridges that immortalized Winterset in The Bridges of Madison County. Arriving in Lincoln, Nebraska, there’s free time for dinner and exploring the Haymarket area. B
Day 6
Lincoln
At the International Quilt Museum, we’ve arranged a guided tour of the museum, exhibitions, and preservation laboratory.
