Arrive Kansas City – Tour Begins

Arrive in Kansas City and check into centrally located Hotel Phillips, our home for two nights. Greet fellow quilt-lovers and your Tour Manager at the Evening Welcome Meeting.

Day 2

Kansas City

After breakfast (included daily), embark on a Kansas City Shop Hop visiting handpicked local quilt and fabric shops. Specializing in an eclectic mix of contemporary & modern prints, The Fabric Chic has vivid selection of luscious solids and full line of Aurifil thread ready for you in their Sewing Lounge. At KC’s City Market enjoy an independant lunch at one of the casual global eateries or browse the indie boutiques for local treasures.  Next, browse over 16,000 bolts of vibrant homespuns, reproductions, hand-dyed wool, patterns & project kits at Quilters Station, a Quilt Sampler Top 10 Shop.  Later, indulge in the high-quality fabric collections at Quilters’ Haven. Fat quarters are on display in pots and baskets, and a rainbow of quilting cottons provide a colorful background for their 5000 bolts. Tonight,  explore the Power & Light districts barbecue restaurants with your evening at leisure. B

Day 3

Kansas City – Hamilton – Des Moines

Depart for Hamilton, a quilter’s dream-town and the “Disneyland of Quilting”  and home of  The Missouri Star Quilt Company. After a Meet & Greet at the Main Shop and Visitor Center, start your pilgrimage at Batik Boutique, Kids & Baby or 10 other themed quilters’ shops in the heart of downtown. After photographing the numerous quilt murals, a 3-block stroll brings you to the Missouri Quilt Museum. Your included admission allows time to admire the quilts of the current exhibition before exploring exhibits of antique sewing machines, vintage buttons, antique toy sewing machines, thimbles, and  other sewing memorabilia.  Later, depart Hamilton for Des Moines stopping at the Amish Country Store and Bakery, filled with foods and crafts made by local Amish families. After checking in to our downtown hotel, relax and enjoy an evening at leisure. B

Day 4

Des Moines

Spend the whole day attending the American Quilters Society QuiltWeek Des Moines show. Admire exhibits of textile art showcasing quilts from traditional to radically unconventional and everything in-between. Polish your skills with a pre-registered class or lecture, attend a pop-up demonstration, test-drive a new longarm machine or shop for fabrics, patterns, notions, kits and needle-craft supplies in the vibrant merchant mall. B

Day 5

Des Moines – Winterset – Omaha

In Winterset, Iowa, a local guide leads a tour of the covered bridges that immortalized Winterset in The Bridges of Madison County. After a show and tell and lunch with a local quilter at the community church, visit Piece Works Quilt Shop, the original shop of legendary Marianne Fons and Liz Porter. Next door at the Iowa Quilt Museum, you’ll have time to view quilts from their diverse collection and admire cutting edge works in the featured exhibitions. Later, we’ll arrive in Omaha, Nebraska to enjoy free time for dinner and exploring the Old Market area. B, L

Omaha – Lincoln

At the International Quilt Museum, we’ve arranged a guided tour of the stunning museum, exhibitions and galleries, and their acclaimed preservation laboratory. After browsing “must haves” in their Museum Store, depart for the fun and utterly friendly Cosmic Cow Quilt Shop. Boasting over 5,000 bolts of bright, bold, and fun quilting cottons, they promise you’ll be over the moon with excitement. Tonight, share memories and swap addresses with new friends at our Farewell Dinner. B, D
