Day 5 – 6: Jekyll Island Club Hotel, Jekyll Island

We invite you to join us as we step back in time—to discover places where the past is still yours to celebrate.  Places where gas lamps flicker in warm Southern breezes and moss-draped oaks caress cobblestone streets.  Don’t miss this exceptional opportunity to combine the joy of quilting, with the Gone With The Wind charm of Charleston, Savannah, & Jekyll Island

Day 1

Browse Charleston’s Old Marketplace on your own to find local crafts, and watch Gullah ladies weave sweetgrass baskets as generations have before them. Meet your Tour Manager and traveling companions at tonight’s Welcome Meeting.

Day 2

On our private tour of the Charleston Museum’s Textile Collection, see the finest 18th to 20th century South Carolina quilts, with examples of basket-of-flowers, chintz appliqué, whitework, album and early paper-template pieced quilts. With these as inspiration, shop for fabrics at People Places & Quilts where a 19th century hardware store overflows with fabrics, patterns and kits.  Savor Colonial, antebellum and Victorian homes and intricate wrought-iron fences on an evening carriage ride through Charleston’s gas-lit streets. B

Day 3

Experience Southern heritage on a guided tour of the historic Boone Hall Plantation. Settle into some Southern hospitality while enjoying the included plantation lunch. Next we travel to Savannah where we’ll explore the historic City Market, a four-block open-air marketplace.  Shop and dine on your own this evening in this most picturesque of Southern cities. B,

Day 4

Glimpse Savannah’s sultry past through its antebellum architecture, fountains and leafy squares on our panoramic city tour. Your guided tour of the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, provides a glimpse into the history and movement that is still building girls into strong women of courage, confidence and character over 100 years later. Tuck into an old-fashioned family-style supper at Paula Deen’s famous The Lady & Sons Restaurant. B, D

Day 5

Shop at Stepping Stones Quilts for traditional and exotic fabrics: hand-dyed, hand-marbled batiks, Ikat, even African Kinte prints. Enjoy lunch on your own before our city tour of beautiful St. Simons Island. A warm welcome awaits us at the jewel of Jekyll Island, the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, our home for the next two nights. This National Historic Landmark is adorned with Tiffany’s leaded glass in the Grand Dining Room and perfect for relaxing with a mint julep while enjoying an evening at leisure. B

Day 6

After breakfast, embark on the Jekyll Island Tram Ride. You can get ideas for your afternoon at leisure—perhaps some croquet, or the beach to gather seashells, or live-oak forests for a walk.  Celebrate with new friends at our Farewell Dinner at the Jekyll Island Club. B,D

Day 7

Our private tour of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, the state’s only sea turtle rehabilitation facility, offers us a rare look at the conservation efforts, research, and other impactful work being done to preserve Georgia’s coastal wildlife. Swap addresses with your new friends before saying goodbye at Jacksonville’s Airport. B
