Day 1
Arrive San Antonio – Tour Begins
Welcome to our historic downtown San Antonio hotel, just a short walk from riverside cafés and charming adobe shops filled with colorful local art and antiques. Later, meet your Tour Manager and travel mates at our evening Welcome Meeting.
Day 2
San Antonio
“Remember the Alamo” with our guide as we learn about Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie at the historic fort. Next, board our private riverboat for an excursion down the Paseo del Rio, cruising under a canopy of cypress trees and arched footbridges. After a casual lunch, our local expert will guide us through San Antonio’s newest arts and entertainment neighborhood, the Pearl District. You’ll have free time to explore the artisan shops of La Villita before savoring dinner at one of the colorful restaurants lining the historic River Walk. B
Day 3
San Antonio – Fredericksburg
This morning, we’ll visit Creations Quilt Shop. Shelves and cabinets are filled with fabrics, including Texas prints and hand-dyed and marbleized fabrics. Antique spool cabinets overflow with specialty buttons, trims, notions and patterns. Later, we’ll travel to the Bavarian village of Fredericksburg to see “gingerbread” houses and explore shops of fine crafts and bakeries that specialize in strudels and German pretzels. B, D
Day 4
San Antonio – La Grange – Houston
In La Grange, we’ll visit the Texas Quilt Museum where the 19th-century brick interiors display quilts from Texas and around the world. Get your creative juices flowing browsing hundreds of bolts of fabric and endless choices of yarns at The Quilted Skein. Tonight, walk across the skybridge that connects our hotel the quilt show to get a first look at Houston’s much-anticipated International Quilt Festival on Preview Night. B
Day 5
Houston
Immerse yourself in the opening day of the Quilt Festival’s dazzling displays of prize-winning quilts. Hundreds of vendors’ booths await with products from around the world: fabrics, notions, antiques, books, ribbons, buttons, wearable art, needlework supplies and more. Your Tour Manager will give you insider tips for viewing the exhibitions, taking classes and shopping the mega-merchant mall, all without wearing yourself out! B
Day 6
Houston – Old Town Spring
Spark your creative passion admiring the displays at the Quilt Festival, then step away for a break and travel to Old Town Spring. Enjoy strolling grassy pathways and Victorian-style restaurants after shopping for quilting cottons at the local fabric shop. Share memories of your incredible journey at tonight’s customary Farewell Dinner. B, D
Day 7
Houston – Tour Ends
After breakfast, attend the International Quilt Festival again, just in case there’s room left in that suitcase for another fat quarter or notion! Departures are at leisure today, allowing you to take a convenient taxi on your own to the airport after spending as much (or as little) time as desired browsing the quilts and vendors. B
