Welcome to Raleigh, North Carolina! Your quilt-filled journey begins in this vibrant city, rich with Southern hospitality and buzzing with creative energy. Settle into your hotel and meet your Tour Manager and fellow travel companions at this evening’s Welcome Meeting.
Start the day with a pair of inspiring quilt shop visits. Browse the beautiful fabrics, patterns, and creative displays at Cary Quilting Company before continuing to Bernina World of Sewing, a favorite destination for sewing enthusiasts and fabric lovers alike. After lunch, discover a different side of textile artistry at the Lace Museum, where intricate handcrafted pieces showcase centuries of tradition and craftsmanship. This afternoon, return to your downtown hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure to explore, dine, or simply relax. B
This morning, we bid farewell to Raleigh and make our way to historic Winston-Salem. Our first stop: Old Salem Museums & Gardens, a beautifully preserved 18th-century Moravian settlement. Walk cobblestone streets, peek into traditional homes and workshops, and witness how skilled artisans created beauty in everyday life—from pottery and woodworking to textiles and, yes, quilting. Next, you’re in for a rare treat: a private connoisseur tour at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA). Led by MESDA’S in-house textile scholar, this experience showcases a remarkable quilt collection and early American craftsmanship that’s as rich in story as it is in stitch. After lunch on your own, enjoy time to shop and explore Old Salem’s shops. Don’t leave without trying the warm, spiced Moravian cookies at Winkler Bakery—a tradition baked since 1800. On the way to our downtown hotel, we’ll stop at the Winston-Salem Visitors Center for a special treat from the donut company made famous here—Krispy Kreme. B, D
Travel along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, where rolling mountains and forested hills make every mile a photo op. In Asheville, we’ll stop at the Folk Art Center, a showcase for the Southern Highland Craft Guild, where handmade traditions still thrive in glass, fiber, wood, and more. Next, head downtown to explore the Grove Arcade, a historic architectural gem filled with local boutiques, galleries, and delicious lunch options. After some browsing and a bite, we check into our hotel and settle in for our two-night Asheville stay. B
We’re off to the Biltmore Estate for a full day of touring and exploring this true American castle nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Built by George Vanderbilt, this grand Gilded Age home features more than 250 rooms, priceless art, and stunning views at every turn. A self-guided audio tour lets you move at your own pace through the mansion, gardens, winery, and more. Make sure to visit Antler Hill Village where complimentary wine tastings, barn and farm demos, and the History of the Biltmore Estate exhibition round out the day.
After breakfast, experience the rich textile heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountains at Local Cloth where a hands-on workshop offers a glimpse into the region’s vibrant fiber arts tradition. Browse locally made textiles before heading to downtown Asheville for free time to enjoy lunch and explore the city’s eclectic shops and galleries. This afternoon, visit 5 Little Monkeys Quilt & Sew for one last fabric-filled treasure hunt. Tonight, celebrate the journey with a Farewell Dinner at Pack’s Tavern before returning to the hotel. B, D
After breakfast, we head to Charlotte, but not before one last treat for fabric lovers—a visit to Asheville Cotton Co., a cheerful and color-packed quilt shop known for its wide selection of fabrics, creative kits, and friendly staff. It’s the perfect place to snag a final souvenir or inspiration for your next project. After lunch, depart for Charlotte Airport, your suitcase (and stash!) a little fuller than when you arrived.
