Welcome to Portland, your starting point for a weeklong summer quilting journey. As you settle into our starting hotel, nestled in the chic Pearl District, venture to the rooftop deck to enjoy skyline views of the neighborhood’s unique charm. Once you’re settled in, get ready to meet and mingle with your fellow quilt enthusiasts and our friendly Tour Manager at our evening Kick-off Welcome Meeting. Tonight is all about getting to know each other and sharing our excitement for the adventure ahead.
Today, get to know the artistic soul of Portland as we embark on a quilt shop-hop through the city. You’ll find yourself in awe of the locally owned shops filled with gorgeous quilting cottons, kits, patterns, and countless other sewing treasures. Don’t forget to engage with the shop owners, who are always eager to share their quilting experiences and insights. After time for lunch and shopping on your own in picturesque Lake Oswego, you’ll get to add more delightful finds to your fabric collection at the next shop stop. As the day winds down, indulge in Portland’s craft-food culture at our hotel’s microbrewery or satisfy your sweet tooth at the legendary Voodoo Doughnuts.
Immerse yourself in the rich heritage of 19th-century quilts at the Latimer Quilt & Textile Center, housed in a beautifully restored schoolhouse. Take a step back in time as you admire the meticulously crafted pieces in a private bed turning. Next, soak in the quaint charm of Cannon Beach, where artistic shops blend seamlessly with the sandy coastline. At Center Diamond, a local quilt shop, you’ll have a chance to browse through their carefully selected bolts of top-quality quilting cottons, books, patterns, and more. Finish your day back in Portland where there’s still time to visit Powell’s City of Books and enjoy dinner on your own.
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before setting off for Sisters, journeying across the breathtaking Cascade Mountains. En route, we’ll stop at Pioneer Quilts, a beloved local quilt shop nestled amongst towering pines. Make sure to savor the tranquil atmosphere of this restored bed & breakfast, now a quilt shop, as you browse through the latest fabric and quilting supplies. Following a picturesque lakeside picnic lunch, you’ll have ample time to explore the delightful shops and ice cream parlors that line Sisters’ Main Street. End your day at the Stitchin’ Post quilt shop, stocking up on goodies ahead of the next day’s crowds.
Start your day at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, the world’s largest outdoor quilt exhibition. As you stroll through the town, transformed by vibrant quilts, you’ll appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship on display. The sidewalks and side streets will lead you to pop-up quilt exhibitions, folk art displays, patchwork demonstrations, and more. Later, enjoy shopping at the Quilt Basket for more fabric and notions, before enjoying a leisurely evening meal in the restored Old Mill District, just steps from your hotel.
This morning, we return to Portland, journeying through the lush landscapes of the Hood River Valley. Keep your camera handy to capture the stunning views of Mount Hood. Enjoy a stop in the famous Fruit Loop at Packer Orchards where a delicious included lunch is ready for you. Make sure to sample their homemade marionberry pie, a local favorite. As we reach the Columbia River Gorge, prepare to be amazed by the majestic Multnomah Falls. Your day concludes with our customary Farewell Dinner, a time to share memories and exchange contact details with your new friends.
On your final day, experience Portland’s history on a city tour, culminating in a visit to the International Rose Test Garden. Inhale the soft aromas of the garden, home to more than 650 diverse rose varieties with fragrant blooms on more than 10,000 bushes. It’s been a week filled with shared experiences, new friendships, and a wealth of quilting inspiration. As you say goodbye to the City of Roses, carry these cherished memories with you, knowing they’ve woven a new pattern into your quilting story.
